Mesothelioma of the peritoneum

The peritoneal mesothelioma, also known as cancer of the peritoneum, is a cancer of the lining of the abdominal tissue. Symptoms can include stomach pain, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, hernias, fluid in the abdominal cavity or a mass in the abdomen.

One of the ways doctors diagnosed mesothelioma of the peritoneum is looking into the abdominal cavity with an instrument called peritoneoscopio. In this procedure, a cut through the wall of the abdomen and the device is introduced to the abdomen.  This test, called peritoneoscopia, it is carried out, usually at the hospita.

Some patients develop an excess of fluid in the abdomen. This is called an outpouring. The doctor may take a sample of the fluid to diagnose whether there mesothelioma of the peritoneum.  The fluid in the abdomen may also drained to relieve symptoms of mesothelioma of the peritoneum.  This procedure drainage of fluids is known as “paracentesi”.
